“Visiting Angels”

Visiting AnglesWhite River Junction – VT. Recently, Louis Ryan, an elderly patient received specialized care in his home recovering  from a stroke. The Visiting Nurse and Hospice of VT and NH (VNAH) visited his home to assist with his rehabilitation. In the following letter, he shares his experience and expresses gratitude to all that were involved in his personal recovery.

“Holiday greetings,
This time of year we give thanks for many things. Not too long ago, I suffered a stroke, was severely overweight and had type II diabetes, all of which I managed to get under control through the diligent efforts of Dartmouth Hitchcock, Alice Peck Day Hospital, Mt. Ascutney Hospital Rehab Hospital  pool, and the Visiting Nurses & Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire. As a recipient of the care provided by the visiting nurses, I wanted to acknowledge and thank them for their professional and personal services in my home.

I wish to take this opportunity to give a special thanks to Peggy Norbury, Physical Therapist, Lisa Vose, Occupational Therapist, and Lisa Durstin, Speech Therapist. They are visiting angels that enabled me to progress in my home! Presently, I am enrolled in a therapy program at Alice Peck Day Hospital, and on the verge of walking. Through the efforts of the visiting angels from the VNAH, I was able to prevent atrophy to my right side before I got the necessary therapy to become functional again.

In the picture provided, Lisa is on my right and Peggy on my left helping me get from one room to another. Every day that they showed up, whether or not I felt up to it, the ladies encouraged me to press forward and did their job with optimism and enthusiasm.

The VNA provides great services and I am sincerely grateful for the assistance I received on my personal road to recovery in my home- once again, thank you!“
